Berlusconi sentenced to community service in nursing home

On Tuesday, an Italian court ruled on the case of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. For violation of tax laws, a millionaire sentenced to a year of corrective labor

Berlusconi will have to comply with curfews, as well as limit his movement around the country. The humiliating situation for the 77-year-old politician, who has already been expelled from parliament and has been banned from participating in elections for the next six years.

Earlier, Italian media reported that Berlusconi's lawyers asked the court to appoint him for weekly community service at a center for the disabled and the elderly near the Cavallero estate in the suburbs of Milan.

We remind you that last year Berlusconi was sentenced to 4 years in a case involving financial fraud of his media group Mediaset. However, he escaped imprisonment due to the softness of Italian law in relation to persons over 70 years of age. Moreover, for positive behavior, the period can be reduced up to nine months. Among other things, Silvio Berlusconi was forbidden to meet people who had a criminal record, and they include at least one of his closest associates. Also, the politician will be somewhat limited in his movements. But in any case, these conditions are milder than even a house arrest.

In accordance with the established rules, Berlusconi will not be able to leave the borders of the Lombardy region, the capital of which is Milan. For a trip to Rome for political reasons, he will need to obtain special permission.

With all this, Berlusconi is still the leader of the main Italian opposition right-wing party "Forward Italy" and is preparing for the May elections to the European Parliament. He claims that he is innocent of all the crimes he is charged with, and accuses most of the Italian judicial system of conspiring to exclude him from politics in connection with the left-sided political convictions of the judges.

By the way, at the moment he is involved in two more trials. On June 20, the trial will resume, after which Berlusconi faces up to seven years in prison and a lifelong ban on participating in parliamentary affairs for sexual relations with a minor 17-year-old prostitute, as well as for abuse of official authority. And in addition, he is accused of giving a bribe of 3 million euros in order to get a central left senator in the ranks of his party in 2006, which allowed him to overcome political rivals.
