In Milan, opens a workshop for unnecessary things

Repaint the old chest of drawers, repair a broken chair or make a lamp out of a can? All this and much more will soon become available to all residents of Milan: on January 29 a real workshop of unnecessary things will open there. This is a great idea and a great way out for those who can’t part with their favorite interior item or furniture, despite the fact that its life has long come to an end.

The RigineriAMO workshop, which will open in less than a week in the Milan Lambarte district, offers everyone to breathe life into old, and seemingly unnecessary things. The creators of this unusual establishment claim that designers and decorators will help restore and give forgotten things a new look. Moreover, the owners of RigineriAMO take all the necessary tools and materials for the procedure.

Rigineriamo - This is a place for those who want to create something new, whether it be a decorative vase or an unusual chair, as well as for those who want to bring their projects to life.

And for this, all the conditions are provided in the workshop, starting with a large space for creativity and ending with the advice of eco-decorators and experienced interior designers. The goal of this project is to minimize waste, to recycle things, and also to extend their service life. This idea is not only very original for those who want to occupy themselves, but also extremely useful, especially for Europe, where about three billion tons of garbage accumulate annually.

So, the creators of RigineriAMO believe that their project will help reduce the amount of unnecessary garbage: after all, after repairs, people often throw away things that might well be useful in the future.

This idea, coming from the Fondazione Caripla organization, was supported by the Oikos Institute, which has been advocating for the environment since 1996. The official opening of the workshop, which is located on Via Folli, will take place January 29, and starting from February 5, RigineriAMO will work on Wednesdays from 15:00 to 22:00.

According to the organizers, every month they plan to hold various free seminars for visitors of all ages: from drawing lessons for the smallest to lectures for adults on extending the life of things.

The problem with waste and garbage arose in Italy almost seven years ago, but the local authorities have not yet been able to achieve an effective solution to it. Each year, the country plunges deeper into the “garbage” crisis, from which it is becoming increasingly difficult to get out. So, in 2007 it became clear that all landfills, where various kinds of waste are disposed of, were filled, so all the garbage was on the streets. Then, according to media reports, in the cities there were more than one hundred ten thousand tons of garbage, and Naples broke all the “records” at all: almost 5200 tons of waste accumulated there.

The Italian government proposes to open new landfills for garbage collection, and also allows the operation of previously mothballed landfills.

However, the last decision did not provoke approval from the population: in 2009, Italians staged mass protests, refusing to even let anyone near the old landfills.

Unfortunately, while the Italian authorities are not able to find a solution that would suit everyone. Not so long ago, a strike broke out across the country of public utilities workers who expressed their dissatisfaction with working conditions. Some military resources were sent to their aid, which slightly improved the situation, but the problem of garbage was not finally resolved.
